Four States Down South Make up 50 Percent of HIV Cases
BENGALURU: World AIDS Day which falls on 1st of December every year has been observed since 1988 to remind the world about the repercussions. It is also observed to evoke the world about the biggest threat to humanity in this century. 
It is even more concerning when it comes to India, which currently has the World’s largest HIV/AIDS affected population—and 50 percent of the 20, 88, 638 HIV positive people come from four states down south. They contribute the maximum number of the HIV affected population in India.
Times of India reports that Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka account for 3.6 lakh HIV cases. The southern states are also among the top four in the country, with Tamil Nadu alone having 80,685 HIV affected people of the total as on May 2014. Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka have over 1 lakh HIV infected populations. Andhra Pradesh which now includes Telangana tops the list with 1.7 lakh HIV affected people. According to the Union ministry of health and family welfare, the numbers have significantly dropped since 2010.
