Five Indian students to represent India at 5th international Olympiad

Bangalore: Five Indian students will represent India at the 5th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) to be held in Poland. The event is to be held from August 25 to September 3 of this year. The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) is an annual astronomy competition for high school students. The five students include Sharad Mirani from Ahmadabad, Jeevan Priya and R. S. B. Bhardwaj from Hyderabad, Akhil Kedia from Kolkata and Akshay Krishna from Bangalore.
In the IOAA even, more than 30 countries will participate and the high school students from around the world compete against each other, solving theoretical, analytical and observational problems in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics. IOAA has ten days series of scientific activity.
In November 2010, 30,000 students appeared in the first round examination in astronomy and 300 top students were selected for the second round and out of that 35 students were selected and made their way to the Indian National Astronomy Olympiad Orientation-cum-Selection Camp (OCSC) held at the HBCSE of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai from 25th April to 14th May 2011. And finally the five students got selected.
India is going global day by day, and this proves India's capability further more. This will boost the confidence of aspiring students to take part in such global events and will be able to take India forward.
