FASTags Without KYC Link to Face Deactivation Post January 31: NHAI
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced that FASTags lacking complete KYC details will face deactivation or blacklisting by banks after January 31. This measure is aimed at improving the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and ensuring smooth traffic flow at toll plazas. The NHAI initiated this action in response to recent incidents of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and the issuance of FASTags without proper KYC, violating the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) directives.
The NHAI directive is issued under the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' policy, aimed at discouraging users from employing a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple FASTags with a specific vehicle. To prevent inconvenience, users must ensure the completion of KYC for their most recent FASTag. According to the NHAI statement, only the latest FASTag account will remain active.
For additional assistance or inquiries, FASTag users can contact the toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks or visit the nearest toll plazas. The statement also highlighted that some FASTags are intentionally not affixed to the vehicle's windscreen, leading to unnecessary delays at toll plazas and causing inconvenience.
