Johnson Controls, a global leader in smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, has reaffirmed its commitment to India's net-zero journey with a series of strategic initiatives. Following the launch of the Net Zero Buildings Initiative in collaboration with Mahindra Group, the company has announced the expansion of its third manufacturing facility in Pune, India.
George Oliver, Chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls, highlighted India's vibrant economy, skilled workforce, and thriving manufacturing sector as key factors driving the company's investment in the country. During their visit to India, Oliver and Anu Rathninde, President of Asia Pacific for Johnson Controls, engaged with senior public and private sector leaders to discuss strategies for accelerating India's efforts to achieve net-zero emissions. This included meetings with influential figures such as Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Textiles, and Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs.
The expansion of Johnson Controls' Pune plant, which produces air-cooled and water-cooled chillers for various applications including data centers, signifies a significant investment in India's growth in digital technologies. The planned 50% increase in floor space will enable the company to further develop locally manufactured parts and products while sourcing supplies locally wherever possible.
Anu Rathninde emphasized the importance of sustainability in the expansion project, stating that the facility will be powered by the latest sustainability-oriented advancements, positioning it as a cornerstone for eco-conscious manufacturing. This move underscores Johnson Controls' dedication to environmental stewardship and its role as a sustainability transformation partner for India.
Since establishing its presence in India in 1995, Johnson Controls has significantly contributed to the local economy, with over 8,500 employees and a growing network of manufacturing and R&D facilities. With integrated building technologies such as high-efficient chillers, heat pumps, building management systems, and OpenBlue digital solutions, the company has helped customers across various industries reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
