FREMONT CA: The US Department of Labor included American Indians and Alaska Natives in its monthly jobs report, which is released on the first Friday of each month for the first time. Marty Walsh, the Secretary of the United States Department of Labor, spoke with Native News Online about the inclusion of American Indians and Alaska Natives in the monthly jobs report. The addition, according to Walsh, is the outcome of President Joe Biden's campaign promises during the 2020 presidential campaign.

American Indians and Alaska Natives have an unemployment rate of 11 percent, about three times higher than the national U.S. unemployment rate of 4.0 percent, which has increased one-tenth from last month's 3.9 percent. It is predominant to collect data regarding the American Indian population, the white workforce members, black workers members, and the Latino. President Biden's administration is particularly concerned with ensuring the inclusion of American Indians and Alaska Natives. During the campaign, he pledged to incorporate Native Americans in all federal government approaches. Engaging with Indians and discussing with tribal leaders in order to meet the government's solemn trust and treaty obligations to tribal countries is indeed a top priority for the administration, stated the President. The administration is also focusing on solving the challenges encountered by the communities, which includes infrastructure deterioration, lack of access to clean, lack of access to housing, broadband, sewage systems, and education.

The ultimate goal of the Secretary of Labor and the President is to lessen the percentage of unemployment in the country. The black community has 6.9 percent, the American Indian community, Alaskan Native community has 11.1 percent, which is disheartening.
