EAM Jaishankar Launches First Overseas Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Mauritius
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has inaugurated the first overseas Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Mauritius, marking a milestone in India-Mauritius health cooperation. The launch, held on Wednesday, highlights the close bilateral ties, particularly in the healthcare sector.
During his two-day visit to Mauritius, Jaishankar engaged in extensive discussions with Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth. Their talks covered various aspects of bilateral relations, including development partnership, defence and maritime cooperation, economic and trade ties, and people-to-people linkages.
"Delighted to inaugurate along with Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth the first overseas Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Mauritius", Jaishankar announced on social media platform X. He emphasized that this Kendra fulfills a promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year.
The India-Mauritius health partnership project aims to supply cost-effective, Made-in-India medicines to enhance public healthcare and well-being. Additionally, Jaishankar and Jugnauth virtually inaugurated 12 India-assisted community development projects and a Mediclinic in Grand Bois.
Jaishankar also presented Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to the first two 7th-generation Mauritian citizens and handed over a royalty cheque for the sale of nautical charts, in line with the bilateral MoU on navigational charts.
"The visit of EAM underscores the importance India attaches to Mauritius as a key pillar of India's Vision SAGAR and 'Neighbourhood First' policy", stated the ministry. It reaffirms the commitment of both nations to strengthen their multi-dimensional bilateral relationship and deepen their close people-to-people ties.
