EAM Jaishankar in Colombo: A Commitment to Mutual Growth
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has landed in Sri Lanka for discussions with the country's leadership and his counterpart.
Upon his arrival, he shared on social media, "Great to be back in Colombo. I look forward to engaging with the Sri Lankan leadership today."
This official visit aims to further enhance the long-standing partnership between India and Sri Lanka for mutual benefit. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this trip aligns with India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and SAGAR vision, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to deepen their collaboration.
This marks EAM Jaishankar's first visit to Sri Lanka since Anura Kumara Dissanayake assumed office as the ninth Executive President on September 23, following his coalition's success in the presidential elections. Additionally, National People's Power MP Harini Amarasuriya recently became the new Prime Minister, making history as only the third woman to hold the position.
During his visit, Jaishankar is expected to meet with President Dissanayake and Prime Minister Amarasuriya. He will also have discussions with Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by senior officials from India's Ministry of External Affairs.
India and Sri Lanka share a rich history of intellectual, cultural, religious, and linguistic ties, with their relationship spanning over 2,500 years. The two nations have seen growth in trade and investment and collaborate in various areas, including development, education, culture, and defense, sharing a mutual understanding of significant global issues.
