Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy successfully flight-tested indigenous Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur along Odisha coast at around 1200 hours on March 26, 2025. The missile was tested from a land-based vertical launcher against a high-speed aerial target at very close range and low altitude. It has validated the Near-Boundary-Low Altitude capability of the missile system.
In the test, the target was totally annihilated by the missile performing the high turn rate needed for attacking targets at extremely close range, and demonstrating the missile's agility, reliability & pin-point accuracy. The test was carried out with all weapon system components deployed in combat mode. These components, such as missile with indigenous Radio Frequency seeker, Multi-Function Radar and Weapon Control System, have worked as expected. The system performance was confirmed by the flight data recorded by different Range Instruments designed and developed by ITR Chandipur.
Congratulations to DRDO, Indian Navy and the industry, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh called the missile system as evidence of India's robust design and development prowess in defence R&D. It will be a great force multiplier for the Indian Navy, he added.
Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat also congratulated DRDO, Indian Navy & team members on this successful flight test and said that the missile, with latest technologies, would provide additional technological boost to Armed Forces.
