Distinguished Indian tech has been appointed by UN chief to AI advisory panel
Distinguished Indian technology experts have been appointed to a new global advisory panel on AI established by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The High-Level Multistakeholder Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence, unveiled by the UN Chief, is comprised of professionals from government, private sectors, research, civil society, and academia. The panel's aim is to create a worldwide scientific consensus on risks and challenges related to AI, promote the use of AI for Sustainable Development Goals, and enhance international cooperation on AI governance.
Key members of an advisory body, which includes Amandeep Singh Gill, the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology Sharad Sharma, Co-Founder of ISPIRT Foundation and Nazneen Rajani, Lead Researcher at Hugging Face India, are working to promote the potential of AI in advancing humanity. Guterres highlighted the potential of AI in predicting and addressing crises, as well as improving public health and education services. He emphasized that AI has the power to bring extraordinary progress to humanity, especially in challenging times.
Amandeep Singh Gill, who previously served as the CEO of the International Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence Research Collaborative (I-DAIR) and as India's Ambassador to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, has been appointed as the Secretary General's Envoy on Technology. Sharad Sharma, known for Co-Founding Teltier Technologies and his active involvement in angel investing, contributes to various advisory roles, including the National Start-up Advisory Council and SEBI's Financial and Regulatory Technology Committee.
Nazneen Rajani is a Research Lead at Hugging Face, specializing in AI Safety and Alignment. She has extensive expertise in evaluating the robustness of Large Language Models (LLMs). Her background includes a Doctorate in Computer Science, and she has conducted notable research in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning interpretability. Experts like Nazneen, with diverse backgrounds and experiences, are crucial to advancing AI governance and leveraging AI for global development goals.
