Delhi Government to Begin Distribution of Ayushman Bharat Cards
The Delhi government is set to begin distributing Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY) health cards to residents starting Thursday, following their registration for the program. The distribution will take place at 3 p.m. at the Plenary Hall in Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi.
Launched in 2018, the PM-JAY initiative aims to reduce the financial burden of healthcare for economically disadvantaged families across India. With the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Health Authority (NHA) of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Department of Health & Family Welfare of the Government of NCT of Delhi, the national capital has officially become the 35th state or union territory to implement this important scheme. Currently, West Bengal is the only state that has not yet adopted PM-JAY.
In a significant enhancement to the initiative, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the state government will provide an additional health coverage of Rs 5 lakh, supplementing the existing Rs 5 lakh coverage offered under the central scheme. This move is expected to further support vulnerable families in accessing necessary healthcare services without the fear of financial strain.
The introduction of PM-JAY in Delhi marks a crucial step towards improving healthcare access for its residents, ensuring that more families can benefit from comprehensive health coverage. As the distribution of health cards begins, the government aims to facilitate a smoother transition into the program, ultimately enhancing the overall health and well-being of the community
