Delhi Brings Birth & Caste Certificates to WhatsApp
- Citizens can soon apply for key documents via WhatsApp
- AI chatbot to assist in Hindi and English
- Dashboard to track and manage requests in real time
Getting a birth or caste certificate in Delhi is about to get a lot easier. The Delhi government is planning to offer these documents through WhatsApp as part of its new digital services push. The initiative, called ‘Governance through WhatsApp’, aims to make 50 public services accessible with just a few taps on the phone.
Instead of visiting government offices or navigating websites, users will be able to chat with a smart, bilingual chatbot available in both Hindi and English. The chatbot will guide users through the entire process, from applying for certificates to uploading documents and making payments.
This effort is being led by the Information Technology Department, which had earlier launched Delhi’s doorstep delivery of services. Now, the same department is working on shifting services to WhatsApp using AI to make access simpler and faster for all.
To support this, the government will build a live dashboard that tracks how departments interact with citizens. A tech company will be hired to develop and run the system.

The move reflects Delhi’s broader goal to improve ease of access and cut down wait times for everyday government services. It also shows how technology can bridge the gap between governance and convenience.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also testing a new feature, usernames, which could let people chat without sharing phone numbers, making digital services even more private and secure in the future.
