Dabur India Employs All-Women Team at Indore Plant
Dabur India has taken a significant step towards fostering gender diversity and women's empowerment in the manufacturing sector by establishing an all-women production line at its largest greenfield plant near Indore. Currently, a crew of 20 women is actively engaged in producing Dabur's popular Vatika hair oils, with plans to expand the initiative by incorporating 30 more women into the factory workforce.
This strategic move aligns with Dabur's commitment to creating a more inclusive workplace and providing equal opportunities for women in traditionally male-dominated industries. Biplab Baksi, Executive Director-HR at Dabur, emphasized the company's dedication to the principle of equal employment opportunities and stated, "Setting up an all-woman production line is one step forward in this direction and seeks to not only transform a traditionally male-dominated manufacturing sector but enhance the lives of local women and the community in the process".
The all-women production line is situated at Dabur's state-of-the-art Rs 550-crore greenfield manufacturing unit near Indore in Madhya Pradesh. This facility is designed to meet the increasing demand for Dabur's natural personal care products, particularly hair oils, with a production capacity of 2.5 million packs per annum and operating in three shifts.
Rahul Awasthi, Global Head of Operations at Dabur, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, "This is a powerful statement for gender equality and women's empowerment in the workplace, but also serves as a shining example of breaking stereotypes and providing equal opportunities". He emphasized that the unit exclusively produces hair care products designed and produced by women for women, fostering a strong connection between the brand and its diverse female consumer base.
Beyond its social impact, the introduction of an all-women workforce has demonstrated tangible benefits, including a 10% increase in the factory's overall productivity. The move is seen as a catalyst for higher efficiency, enhanced team cohesion, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality.
Dabur's pioneering approach not only transforms manufacturing norms but also contributes significantly to the economic independence of women, setting a precedent for promoting diversity and empowerment in the Indian manufacturing landscape.
