Indian-American doctors, who compose one of the most influential communities in the United States, intend a significant event in Texas to commemorate AAPI's 40th anniversary

FREMONT CA: Indian-American doctors, who are one of the most influential communities in the United States, are planning a mega event in Texas to commemorate AAPI's 40th anniversary, addressed by renowned physician Dr. Peter Hotez and Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, among others. The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) is the country's largest ethnic medical organization, representing over 100,000 doctors.

According to AAPI president Dr. Anupama Gotimukula, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to send a video message to the all-important annual AAPI convention, held from June 23 to June 26.  Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. S Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs, will attend the event.

The convention will also feature Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of National Drug Control Policy and the first medical doctor to lead the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). In the Biden administration, he is the highest-ranking Indian-American. AAPI will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The convention will also cover yoga and meditation, as well as how these techniques can help with stress relief. Another topic of discussion at the convention is lifestyle change.

Hotez, an internationally recognized physician-scientist in tropical diseases and vaccine development, will deliver the keynote address, according to Gotimukula. Hotez is Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics, Molecular Virology, and Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, where he also serves as co-director of the Texas Children's Center for Vaccine Development (CVD) and holds the Texas Children's Hospital Endowed Chair of Tropical Pediatrics. He and his team of researchers developed the new CORBEVAX vaccine, developed in Texas with decades-old technology and little government support.

As specified by Gotimukula, the vaccine received emergency use authorization from India's drug regulatory agency last month. Gavaskar, the legendary Indian batsman, will also speak at the event.

The convention will also commemorate India's 75th anniversary of independence with an "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” as stated by Gotimukula, who added that several eminent Indian personalities will join.
