BSNL Takes on Jio and Airtel with Affordable Plans and New Technologies
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is taking bold steps to compete with private telecommunications giants like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, primarily through its competitively priced recharge plans. As part of its strategy, BSNL is expanding its 4G network while preparing for the upcoming launch of its 5G services. The company is offering various affordable recharge options that feature extended validity periods, delivering substantial value to consumers. For example, BSNL’s plans provide 150 days of service at a price point that is comparable to the typical 28-day plans offered by private companies.
One standout option is the BSNL recharge plan priced at Rs 397, which exemplifies the company’s commitment to affordability and customer satisfaction. This prepaid plan grants users an impressive validity of 150 days, along with a suite of benefits including unlimited calling, data, and complimentary SMS services. Such offerings are particularly attractive for users who choose BSNL as a secondary SIM. Under this plan, users can enjoy unlimited calls to any mobile network nationwide during the first 30 days. Additionally, the plan includes a daily data allocation of 2GB, after which the data speed will be reduced to 40 kbps, allowing for continued connectivity. Users also benefit from 100 free SMS messages per day during the initial month of service.
In a bid to modernize its image, BSNL has recently unveiled a new logo and slogan, marking a significant rebranding effort after 24 years. The company has also launched seven new services and is set to roll out its commercial 4G services nationwide. Plans for a 5G rollout are anticipated by June of the following year. To bolster its mobile network infrastructure, BSNL aims to install 100,000 new mobile towers, with over 35,000 already operational.
In a positive trend, BSNL emerged as the only telecom provider to gain subscribers in August, adding 2.5 million new users, while competitors Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea experienced subscriber losses of 4 million, 2.4 million, and 1.9 million, respectively.
