Blinkit Urged for Swift Water Tanker Service in Bengaluru
Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal has suggested that quick-commerce platform Blinkit initiate an on-demand, under 10-minute water tanker service for Bengaluru, which is grappling with a severe water shortage. The city's groundwater levels have dwindled due to insufficient rainfall, leading to many bore wells running dry. Munjal took to 'X' to convey the idea, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the water crisis.
Amid the water scarcity, several tech professionals have temporarily left the city. Last week, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) imposed restrictions on water usage, prohibiting activities such as washing vehicles, operating fountains, and gardening. Violations of these restrictions are subject to a fine of Rs 5,000.
Bengaluru, with a population of 1.40 crore, including the floating population, requires approximately 1,450 million litres per day (MLD) of water from the Cauvery and an additional 700 MLD from groundwater sources. In response to the water shortage, the BWSSB has mandated obtaining permission from authorities before drilling bore wells, aiming to regulate water extraction in the region.
