BHEL Secures 2.4 MW Greenfield Project in Odisha from NLC India
BHEL, a government-owned company, announced that it had secured a contract to establish a 2,400 MW supercritical thermal power project (STPP) from NLC India Ltd, a coal PSU. According to a statement from BHEL, this represents the company's most substantial order in the power sector achieved through competitive bidding. "BHEL bags an order for setting up a 2,400 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Project. BHEL has won the prestigious order under International Competitive Bidding (ICB) for the greenfield project on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis at Jharsuguda in Odisha", the company said.
The scope of the EPC contract includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of crucial equipment, such as boilers, turbines, generators, and other auxiliary systems, for the 3x800 MW thermal power project. The scope also includes boilers with biomass co-firing capability and highly efficient latest pollution control equipment. The project will be commissioned within 64 months. On commissioning, this plant will contribute to meeting the future base load requirement of electricity in the country.
BHEL's significant equipment will be produced at its Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Bengaluru, Ranipet, Bhopal, Rudrapur, and Varanasi plants. The civil works, as well as the erection and commissioning of the equipment, will be overseen by the company's power sector – southern region.
Maintaining an enduring collaboration with NLCIL, BHEL has played a crucial role by installing a substantial 77 percent of the utility's coal/lignite-based power stations, amounting to 3,590 MW. As the foremost manufacturer of power generation equipment in the nation, BHEL has actively contributed as a key ally in the country's pursuit of achieving energy self-reliance.
