Bhashini Enhances Multilingual Access at Mahakumbh 2025
Bhashini, the AI-powered language translation tool by MeitY, was launched on Tuesday at Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. The fair, which started from January 13, will end on February 26. Through the integration of Bhashini, accessibility for participants will be further enhanced, allowing support in 11 languages as millions of people visit the world's largest spiritual gathering.
Bhashini’s language translation ecosystem will assist in the 'Digital Lost & Found Solution,' allowing people to report lost or found items using their native languages via voice input. The platform also facilitates real-time text and voice translation, enabling easy communication at the event. Additionally, multilingual chatbot assistance is available for queries and navigation, along with guidelines translated into local languages, ensuring seamless interaction with police and event organizers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched the Kumbh Sah’AI’yak chatbot, which leverages AI technologies such as Llama LLM. This multilingual, voice-enabled chatbot, supported by Bhashini’s translation tools, offers real-time information and guidance in 11 languages, including Hindi, English, and nine regional languages.
The app, Converse, allows users to communicate in any language and connects them directly to the 112 emergency helpline of UP Police. It has been undertaken by the UP Police Department and MeitY to train their field officers about using the application for language-based facilitation of communication to distressed devotees.
MeitY has said that the integration of Bhashini represents its commitment to technological innovation and inclusivity, as it is now offering multilingual support for a more enhanced and accessible Mahakumbh experience for all.
