As Ganesh Chaturthi draws near, Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja has unveiled its 2024 avatar, capturing widespread attention with a majestic 20-kg gold crown valued at Rs 15 crore. This remarkable gift, presented by Anant Ambani and the Reliance Foundation, has added a significant touch to the iconic festival celebrations.
The first glimpse of Lalbaugcha Raja on the evening of September 5 showcased the idol draped in maroon attire and adorned with intricate jewelry. The centerpiece of this year’s display is the opulent gold crown, which was meticulously crafted over two months. This gesture by Anant Ambani highlights his enduring relationship with the Lalbaugcha Raja committee.
The Lalbaugcha Raja Public Ganeshotsav Mandal will celebrate the Ganeshotsav from Saturday, September 7, 2024, to Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Anant Ambani’s connection with Lalbaugcha Raja spans 15 years, marked by active support for the committee through various initiatives. His involvement has included frequent attendance at Ganeshotsav celebrations and the grand immersion ceremony at Girgaon Chowpatty Beach.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Lalbaugcha Raja committee faced financial difficulties, Anant Ambani provided substantial aid, including donating 24 dialysis machines to support the committee’s patient assistance fund. His contributions reflect a strong commitment to public welfare.
This year, Anant Ambani has been honored with an honorary membership of the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal, recognizing his ongoing support and the role of the Reliance Foundation in enhancing the mandal’s charitable activities. Additionally, he has been appointed as an executive advisor to the Lalbaugcha Raja committee, underscoring his deep involvement and influence within the organization.
Ganesh Chaturthi, beginning September 7, is a major festival in Maharashtra, characterized by elaborate rituals, vibrant festivities, and a grand visarjan, where Ganesh idols are immersed in water bodies amidst chants and music. Lalbaugcha Raja, known as the ‘King of Lalbaug,’ remains one of the most visited Ganesh mandals in Mumbai, attracting devotees from all walks of life and serving as a central highlight of the festival season.
