Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and his family have made a significant commitment towards the advancement of education in India, pledging Rs 500 crore over the next five years to Mahindra University. This pledge, starting from the upcoming financial year FY25 and extending till FY29, reflects their dedication to fostering interdisciplinary academic excellence and cultivating multi-skilled leaders dedicated to inclusive and sustainable progress.
According to a statement released by Mahindra University, this substantial financial support will play a pivotal role in realizing the university's vision. It will bolster various initiatives aimed at enhancing educational quality and accessibility. Additionally, it will facilitate the training of future leaders equipped to address contemporary challenges through innovative and inclusive approaches.
Anand Mahindra has also made a personal pledge of Rs 50 crore to establish the Indira Mahindra School of Education in FY25. Named in memory of his mother, Indira Mahindra, who was a teacher, this school aims to become a beacon of excellence in educational research, practice, and innovation. This endowment underscores Anand Mahindra's commitment to honoring his mother's legacy by nurturing the next generation of educators and educational practices.
The combined pledge of Rs 550 crore represents the latest in a series of educational initiatives supported by Anand Mahindra across the country. Notably, initiatives like the Mahindra United World College India and the Mahindra International School have been instrumental in advancing educational standards and providing opportunities for holistic development.
Anand Mahindra's dedication to education dates back to 1996 when he initiated the 'Nanhi Kali' program. This initiative has positively impacted the lives of over 700,000 underprivileged girls by granting them access to quality education over the past two decades, highlighting his enduring commitment to social empowerment through education.
Mahindra University, established in May 2020 in Hyderabad, has rapidly expanded its academic offerings since its inception. Starting with the School of Engineering, the university now boasts 35 programs across five schools and four centers, spanning undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. With over 4,100 students enrolled, including approximately 10% at the postgraduate level, Mahindra University is poised to become a prominent hub for interdisciplinary learning and research.
