Amazon India has entered into an agreement with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), operating under the Ministry of Defence, to offer employment opportunities to former military personnel within the company. Through this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Amazon India aims to work in partnership with the ICG to support veterans in transitioning from military backgrounds to pursue corporate careers, either within Amazon or in various other corporate roles, as stated by the company.
"Appreciating the wealth of experience and unique perspectives offered by ex-service personnel, Amazon globally operates the Military Veterans Employment Programme", stated Deepti Varma, Amazon India, Japan, and Emerging Markets VP, People Experience Technology. With the recent signing of the MoU, she expressed excitement about collaborating with the Indian Coast Guard to collectively strive towards the shared objective of providing meaningful work opportunities for veterans and their families. In August 2019, Amazon India initiated the Military Veterans Employment programme in partnership with the Army Welfare Placement Organization (AWPO), aiming to generate numerous opportunities for military veterans and their spouses throughout the company's fulfilment network in India.
The Indian Coast Guard is a versatile organization engaged in year-round maritime operations with capabilities in both surface and air missions, led by the Director General Indian Coast Guard (DGICG) based at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi. Despite its size, it effectively carries out a broad spectrum of tasks. On the other hand, Amazon.com, Inc., is a prominent American multinational technology company specializing in e-commerce, cloud computing, online advertising, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. It is recognized as one of the major players among American technology firms, often referred to as the Big Five, which includes Alphabet (Google's parent company), Apple, Meta, and Microsoft.
