In a significant milestone for India’s mining industry, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) have successfully conducted the country’s first cast/throw blast trial for dozer push mining operations at Adani Group's PEKB (Parsa East and Kanta Basan Coal Block) mine in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh.
This innovative approach marks the first use of unmanned machinery for mining in India. Dr. MP Roy, Chief Scientist at CSIR-CIMFR, revealed that the trial involved autonomously drilling 108 holes and utilizing 60 tons of bulk emulsion as an explosive. The blasted material was then efficiently pushed into a decoaled area using dozers.
Under the leadership of Professor Arvind Kumar Mishra, Director of CSIR-CIMFR, the trial showcased the potential of the dozer push method as a viable alternative to traditional dragline and truck/shovel excavation techniques.
According to CSIR-CIMFR, this method not only improves dragline utilization but also offers significant cost and productivity benefits, especially during the rainy season when haul road conditions compromise truck-shovel operations.
The PEKB mine, operational since 2013, has a peak production capacity of 15 million tons per year. This pioneering trial aligns with Adani Group's commitment to leveraging advanced technologies for enhanced efficiency and safety in mining operations.
