Adani Group to Invest Rs 60,000 Crore in Airport Business Over Next 10 Years
Adani Group, led by Managing Director Karan Adani, has unveiled ambitious plans to invest Rs 60,000 crore in expanding its existing airport portfolio over the next 5-10 years. Adani Airports Holdings (AAHL) Chief Executive Officer Arun Bansal outlined that half of this investment, Rs 30,000 crore, will be directed towards the 'airside' development in the next five years, while the remaining funds will be allocated to the 'cityside' over the following 5-10 years. The seven airports set for expansion are located in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Guwahati, Jaipur, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Karan Adani emphasized that the current airport capacity stands at 10-11 crore passengers annually (CPA), with plans to triple this capacity by 2040. New terminals are in the works for Lucknow, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur, while Navi Mumbai is slated to open a new terminal by next March. The goal is to achieve a combined capacity of 25-30 CPA by 2040.
Notably, the Rs 60,000 crore capital expenditure does not cover the Rs 18,000 crore earmarked for the Phase-I development of the Navi Mumbai airport. Arun Bansal highlighted that their immediate focus is on operationalizing the Navi Mumbai airport and initiating city-side development at various airports. Internationally, the group is exploring strategic opportunities in airport development, aligning with larger opportunities in the country across ports, transmission, and other sectors. Currently, the Adani Group is evaluating prospects in a specific country for future ventures.
