Toyota Unveils Vellfire - Self-Charging EV Hybrid in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) unveils Vellfire, a luxury self-charging hybrid electric vehicle in India.  This Toyota car is equipped with two electric motors and a hybrid battery to minimize emissions. Vellfire is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder gasoline hybrid engine; it would produce 86 kW power and a maximum torque of 198 Nm.

“The automotive industry in India is undergoing a profound technology-driven transformation with innovation and creativity defining the overall customer experience. As industry leaders, it is imperative for us to challenge ourselves and provide customers with new breakthroughs,” states Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

Toyota's Vellfire brings new features such as spacious lounge class seating, power sliding door, newly developed VIP tuned suspension, twin monoroofs, seat memory setting, 16 colors ambient light and long seat sliding function and more. This vehicle comes under the category of Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SHEV), belonging to electrified vehicles (xEVs) family. It provides Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

These technologies used in the vehicle share common core technology of advanced batteries, motors and controllers. SHEVs come with an onboard charging function wherein electric batteries could get automatically charged during operation, eliminating the need for external charging facility.

He further states that Vellfire's launch is an imperative move in Toyota's long-term plan to achieve zero carbon dioxide challenge and aid in accomplishing the company's goal of greener future. The company has set up Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050 as a goal to attain a society where cars, people and nature could coexist in harmony.
