Pratip Chaudhuri, the chairman of the State Bank of India, topped the list of Indian executives making headlines the past month. He was in the news after India’s largest bank by assets - State Bank of India (SBI), cut its minimum lending rate by quarter of a percentage point to 9.75 percent, the lowest in the industry. This was done due to the central bank’s decision to reduce the cash reserve ratio. Chaudhuri had been pushing the RBI to eliminate the CRR, saying it puts needless pressure on India’s financial and banking system.
