Sonia Syngal Joins Gap Inc.

The old Navy chief executive Sonia Syngal will serve Gap Inc. as chief executive officer to strengthen the performance of the portfolio.

FREMONT, CA: Gap Inc has appointed old Navy chief executive Sonia Syngal as a chief executive officer as the apparel retailer looks to reverse falling foot traffic and sales while it pivots to a new strategy. Her top priority is to strengthen the performance of the portfolio.

In 2016, before being appointed as CEO of Old Navy, she was serving as vice president of Global Supply Chain and Product Operations responsible for managing Gap Inc.’s global supply chain and leading the product-to-market model in support of Gap Inc.’s portfolio of brands, including Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta, and Intermix.

Syngal says that she is excited to build on this company’s rich heritage and lead almost 130,000 employees in transforming the business and operations to compete in the future successfully. She also mentioned that she is fully committed to realizing the potential of the portfolio and the advantage of the scale, with a focus on strengthening the love that their millions of customers have for their brands.

In 2004, she joined Gap and served in several essential leadership and general management roles. She worked as senior vice president for Gap Inc.’s International division, managing director for Gap Inc.’s Europe business, and also held several roles across the production and supply chain range.

Syngal had a long career in Fortune 500 product firms. She has worked ten years at Sun Microsystems, where she managed manufacturing operations, logistics, and supply chain management. Then she served Ford Motor Co. for six years as product design, quality, and manufacturing engineering.

She is also working as a guest lecturer at Stanford University, and a member of the Boys & Girls Club of America’s Board of Governors. Syngal also serves on the Gap Inc. Foundation Board.
