NEW DELHI: Enterprise software maker SAP today launched an initiative called 'Back-to-Work' to provide women professionals opportunity to re-enter the workforce after a career break.

"SAP recognises that many of the women who may have stepped back from the paid workforce to focus on personal commitments are highly-qualified and experienced," SAP India said in a statement.

The programme will offer project-based assignments and practical assistance to the potential candidates, it added.

SAP is looking to get women from a range of professional backgrounds. They are required to have at least three years of continuous work experience before they left the workforce for a minimum of two years.

"India ranks 108th out of 145 countries in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Index 2015. Back-to-Work aims to reintegrate an untapped pool of high-potential female professionals back into corporate life. This initiative is targeted at eliminating the gender disparity in the country," SAP India Vice President Human Resources Vlasta Dusil said.

In the era of digitalisation, diversity and inclusion are imperative to innovate for tomorrow, she added.

Each assignment will last for a maximum of six months and work will take place onsite or virtually depending on the nature of the project.

"There is the potential for full-time employment subject to business opportunities at the end of the six-months period," the statement said.

SAP will provide participants with competitive remuneration, flexible work arrangements when possible and the necessary support they need to integrate into the workplace, it said.

In addition to networking opportunities, a project mentor will be on hand to guide participants through the process.
