Paralympian Dr. Deepa Malik to be honoured with IIMK National Excellence Award

IIM Kozhikode will award India’s most celebrated Paralympian Dr. (h.c) Deepa Malik (Padma Shri, Arjun Awardee) with the ‘IIMK National Excellence Award’, this Sunday (24th February 2019) on the occasion of the 10th Edition of Peekay Steel Calicut Half Marathon. Along with that, IIMK also announced their plan to create 60 women-only supernumerary PGP seats for its 2019 intake and by having an award given to Deepa Malik shows the Institute’s aspiration of acknowledging the leadership of Indian women.

Congratulating Deepa on her feat., Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, says, “IIMK prides itself in empowering women and wishes to highlight the importance of women in all spheres of life. Dr. Deepa Malik is the personification of focus and determination. We hope that this event inspires all the runners taking part in the Marathon, encourages them to pursue their dreams despite all odds and stand united in their endeavors. This is inspired by the theme of the marathon, ‘United Kerala’”.

Being the first ever Indian Women Para Athlete to win a Asian Games medal in athletics, the first ever Indian woman to win a world championship medal, the first ever woman Paralympic Medallist across any sport, the only Indian woman athlete to win 3 successive Asian Games, Deepa also holds a world record for open river swimming across the Yamuna River for 1 km against the current. She also holds a record for doing a pan-India drive to promote para-sports in the country to spread the message of ‘Ability Beyond Disability’.

Established in 1997, IIMK started with its Postgraduate Programme (PGP) and now it offers widest range of academic programmes in the field of management education such as Fellow Program in Management, Executive PG Programs, Management Development Programmes and Faculty Development Programs are also initiated by IIMK. Also, IIMK sets up a satellite campus at Infopark, Kochi to promote Executive Education.
