Washington: Pakistan continues to support terror operations in India even after Nawaz Sharif has taken over as the new Prime Minister, a former top Pentagon official and an eminent defence analyst has told the U.S. Congress.

"They support terror operations in India with terrorist organisations. They support the Haqqani network and the Taliban in conducting operations against the United States and Nato and Afghanistan. They've got blood all over their hands with the casualties," General (Retd) Jack Keane said.

Currently the chairman of the board of top U.S. thinktank, Institute for the Study of War, Keane said during a Congressional hearing that he does not expect much from the current regime.

"This is a regime that is dominated by its military, who puts its military self above the state. We've got a weak civilian government, fundamentally corrupt. The economy is in the tank. We've got a raging insurgency. We've got an escalating nuclear power," Keane said.

Stating that terrorist safe-havens is a big issue, Keane recommended that U.S. forces be permitted to target Haqqani network inside Pakistan.

1: The remarks are quite blunt, especially as they come from the US Military. As much as I am for peace & development route, I do not trust the Pakistan Government. I think it is time for US to have strategic ties with India (and as much crazy it may sound) have clear role of Iran in South East Asia region. Relying upon Pakistan for peace and development in Afghanistan is like building castle over sand. Pakistan need be shown its own true face, a religion centric country which is weak and which has no qualms in backstabbing and using terror to settle score with infidels. I hope it evolves out of it but not sure if billions of dollars would help in that.

2: It is very clear that the elected PM Nawaz Sharif is not in control of the nation even after the elections and only Army is calling the shots. It is heartening that US is boldly admitting the facts finally and should immediately stop funding the terrorist nation so that there will be peace in the world.
