PTC Partners with Rockwell to Bring Together PLM and Factory Automation
The initial result of PTC and Rockwell's collaboration was the 2018 launch of the FactoryTalk Innovation Suite "Powered by PTC," which builds on PTC's IIoT solutions connecting IT systems with OT systems.

Fremont, CA: In 2018, PLM software vendor PTC and factory automation equipment maker Rockwell Automation joined hands together in a partnership agreement. PTC and Rockwell are each in the top level of their respective areas: product development and manufacturing automation. The purpose of their partnership was to provide their customers with integration and seamless functionality between PLM and automated manufacturing systems with MES, connected shop floor equipment, Operational Technology (OT), and commercial power.

Immediate Results of the Partnership

PTC chief Jim Heppelmann and his Rockwell colleague, CEO Blake Moret, committed to maintaining a high level of activity. The IoT venture surrounding the ThingWorx platform and the AR capabilities underlying the Vuforia platform are only a fraction of the partnership's outcome. The initial result of PTC and Rockwell's collaboration was the 2018 launch of the FactoryTalk Innovation Suite "Powered by PTC," which builds on PTC's IIoT solutions connecting IT systems with OT systems. Jointly PTC and Rockwell brought to the table was a solution that makes it possible to optimize industrial operations and boost productivity by giving decision-makers improved data and insights. FactoryTalk Innovation suite includes FactoryTalk Analytics, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Manufacturing Operation Management (MOM) platforms, and PTC's ThingWorx Industrial IoT platform, which includes connections to Kepware for connectivity between units on the workshop floor, and AR/VR on the Vuforia platform.

"Factory Insights as a Service"

"Factory Insights as a Service" was launched in mid-2020. It is a cloud-based turnkey solution that empowers manufacturers to achieve business impact, speed, and scale their digital transformation initiatives. This offering of cooperation between PTC and Rockwell is growing rapidly in terms of functional technology content. In addition, another tech giant, Microsoft, and their cloud technology platform Azure have been included.

PTC and Rockwell Collaboration Creates Good Commercial Inputs

After the collaboration, PTC and Rockwell focus on growing where they are already established, while simultaneously seizing new opportunities that can help capture the respective partners' customers. Together, they have two customer stocks, even though it is not simply a matter of "picking up" new orders in the long-cycle engineering industry. However, Rockwell's Felix Langkjaer claimed that the partnership has immense potential to change and broaden the market. In response to the coronavirus crisis, the companies have offered Vuforia Chalk free of cost until August 31st. It is an augmented reality tool that provides easy access to remote support from an expert via mobile or tablet.
