PM to launch High Throughput COVID-19 testing facilities Today: 27th July

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to launch high throughput COVID-19 testing facilities today on the 27th July via video conferencing. With establishments of these facilities, the testing capacity will ramp up  in the country which in turn will help in strengthening early detection and treatment, thus assisting in keeping a check on the spread of the pandemic.

The location of the three high-throughput testing facilities are as follows: ICMR-National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, Noida; ICMR-National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai; and ICMR-National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, Kolkata. These facilities are equipped to be able to test over 10,000 samples in a day. The labs will also cut down on the turn-around-time and exposure of lab personnel to infectious clinical materials. Besides, the facilities are enabled to test diseases other than COVID as well. Hopefully, after the pandemic subsides, the facilities will be able to test for Hepatitis B and C, HIV, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Cytomegalovirus, Chlamydia, Neisseria, Dengue, etc.

Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Science & Technology, along with Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh will be attending in the event.
