Mid-Day Meal Rankings Sparks Controversy; Experts Question It's Authenticity


Bangalore: The Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) for the very first time, has announced mid-day meal rankings of all states which are part of this scheme all across India. With a success score of 77.79 percent in the implementation of the programme, Karnataka has topped over other states. This is followed by Punjab with 76.81 percent, Daman and Diu with 71.40 percent, Himachal Pradesh with 71.31 percent and Bihar with a score of 70.36 are among the top five states. The ranking of states was given on the basis of their performance in implementing the Mid Day Meal scheme.  On the other hand, this ranking system has triggers protest among various sections questioning on the authenticity of the judgment, reports Akshaya Mukul of Times of India.

Some of the best performing states like Tamil Nadu and Delhi have been consigned to the bottom of the rankings, which has added more spark against the ministry's progress.

However, additional secretary in HRD ministry, Amarjit Singh, claimed that the document was shared with states and also stated that the process would be refined further. But, state governments and food rights activists pointed towards serious loop hole that existed in the system.
