Karnataka: The Centre for Communal Clashes in South India

Bangalore: Karnataka is no more the peace-loving state which it was earlier. The series of church attacks and other communal riots in the recent past have snatched away the southern state’s reputation of being serene and quiet. The statistics pulled out by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) prove that Karnataka has lost its charm because of its aggressive nature. Among all the south Indian states, Karnataka now tops in communal violence, reports Chethan Kumar for The Times of India.

When compared with all other Indian states, it is Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra which pave the way before Karnataka. Data collected by MHA reveals that the state holds a record of 222 incidents of communal violence over the past three years. This makes up for the country’s 10 percent out of the total of 2,120 cases. In UP, MP and Maharashtra the figures stand at 347, 299 and 326, respectively.
