K J Somaiya College of Engineering, the only Mumbai College to make the Top 3 at a National Youth Technovation Challenge


K J Somaiya Institute of Engineering, Mumbai along with IIT Madras and IIT Delhi makes it to the top three in a National Youth Technovation challenge for engineering colleges. Organized by Maruti Suzuki Colors of Youth, the event saw participation from over 120 colleges to showcase their ‘Innovative’ projects.

National Youth Technovation Challenge is an initiative by Maruti Suzuki which aims at the talent the millenials have and provides the platform to showcase the hidden qualities. Talents ranging from singing, dancing, music, stand-up comedy, rapping, speed painting, beatboxing, technological innovation, car graphics are many more can be showcased. A coveted panel of judges like Diana Hayden, Nikhil Chinappa, and Benny Dayal has judged the event previously and this year it will be judged by Miss. Shakthi Mohan, choreographer & actress and Mr. Benny Dayal, Bollywood singer. The winner shall be given a certificate and a cash price of INR 2 lacs and the runners up will be given certificates and momentos at the final event, Delhi.

On its 7th year, it provides the platform Organized by Maruti Suzuki Colors of Youth, the event saw participation from over 120 colleges to showcase their ‘Innovative’ projects.

Speaking on the achievement, Shubha Pandit, Principal, K J Somaiya College of Engineering, says, “It is a great feeling of pride to witness our students in the top 3 in the country. They have worked hard. This is an excellent platform to enhance the student’s skills through the creation, the design, the assembly and the operation of robots. It certainly promotes leadership, team building and problem-solving skills throughout the process of designing and building” The involvement and dedication of our students is indeed very significant.”

The students from K J Somaiya Engineering College exhibited an ‘Autonomous Water Rover’ (AWR), which helps you find the water parameters such as pH, temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen. Along with that, it can be used for gathering data for Government and other organizations to channel depth monitoring in ports, underwater surveillance for navy, emergency operations when floods and other disasters occur. In addition, the real-time updates can be tracked through the website with the help of GPS coordinates which can be specified by the user. The location of the rover can be tracked through the website and the overall cost for the AWR was around Rs 70,000. Chirag Shah, team member from K J Somaiya College of Engineering, says, “The project autonomous water rover is also our final year project, and we have been working on it for the last 9 months. The competition was a great experience and provided us a platform to showcase our project in front of some of the best from the industry, winning the competition gives us great joy and are hopeful that our victory will also motivate other students from KJSCE”.
