Popularly known as Jhansi ki Rani, she was the queen of the Jhansi town in Northern state of India. She was married to Raja Gangadhar Rao Niwalkar, the king of Jhansi in 1842. Under the leadership of Lord Dalhousie, the governor ordered to capture all princely states without any heirs. But, Rani Lakshmibai being a widow and a mother of an adopted son refused to surrender. She fought against the British for two weeks but eventually lost. She was an inspiration to the people around the country for her heroics war tactics, which later paved the way for the freedom struggle all over India.
