We all have a song that we obsess over, or a song that reminds us of a certain person. We maybe want to set it as our ringtone, or want a certain ringtone for some people.

How do we do that? Read on to learn how.

Turning a song into a Ringtone

In this section, we will show you how you can convert a song into a ringtone for both iPhone and Android (for free). If you are not interested in making a ringtone, you can even download ringtones from myxer.fm.

This section is divided into two smaller ones, one for each type of phone operating system.

1. iPhone (IOS)

Let's say that you have an iPhone, and you do not like the preset ringtones available as they can be quite boring. Below, you can find the steps that you need to take in order to create a ringtone from a song that you like or don't like (for that person that you dislike).

At first, this can seem a bit complicated, but we promise that it is worth it, and the more you do it, the easier it gets.

Step 1: Update ITunes

The first thing that you need to do is to open iTunes on either Windows or Mac OS. Then, you need to click on the app toolbar, and choose "Check for Updates" in that drop-down menu.

If you have the last version of Windows 10, you need to click on the Help button from the menu bar, and then click on "Check for Updates".

Step 2: Pick a song

Next, you need to pick the song that you want to use as a ringtone. Don't forget that a ringtone usually runs in loops of 30 second, so don't make it longer.

Once you know the song that you want, you need to remember the start and the stop times for the 30 seconds that you want as your ringtone.

Step 3: Add your start and stop times

Add your start and stop times

iTunes allows users to crop both songs and videos. In order to do so, you need to right click or even Ctrl click on the desired song, and then choose Song Info (from the drop-down list). After that, you should have an Options Tab, where you can select the start and stop time. Please try to keep the length of the song below 30 seconds, then click on ok.

Step 4: Make an AAC version

Make an AAC version

AAC is the audio format preferred by Apple, as it uses less space compared to an Mp3 file, while maintaining the sound quality.

After you have cut your song, you need to select this version, then go to File->Convert->Convert to AAC version.

You can find the shortened version of your song in iTunes, directly under the original version.

Step 5: Set the song as your ringtone

For this step, you need to go to Settings-> Sounds->Ringtone and choose it as a ringtone. Now you can enjoy your new ringtone. If you have an Android device, read on, because we are explaining the steps for you now.

2. Android

Dear Android users, we have not forgotten about you. We left you at the end, because it is actually an easier process.

Step 1: Download and open the app

You need to go to the App store (Google Play Store) and download the app. After that, you need to open it.

Pick a song

For this step you need to have the song stored on your device. After you open the app, you need to select the, and load it.

Step 3: Cut the song

You will see two grey sliders. You need to select the start and end time of your song, then save it. Keep in mind that it should not be longer than 30 seconds.

Then, you need to give your ringtone a name, and everything should be ok.

Step 4: Set your ringtone

To set the song as a ringtone, you simply need to go to Settings->Sound-> Phone -> Ringtone, then just select the ringtone version of the desired song.
