How to Save Money When Planning a Wedding

Weddings can be very expensive, and if you’re planning yours, then you more than likely know this by now. It can get very overwhelming when things cost more than you can afford and sometimes it’s better to save some money where you can. Saving money on specific aspects of your wedding doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice things though, it’s all about being money-savvy. We’ve listed some ideas to save you money when you’re planning a wedding below, they’re great to keep in mind when you’re looking into options!

How to Save Money When Planning a Wedding

Buy an Affordable Dress (Or Rent One!)

Spending less money on a beautiful dress doesn’t mean to say it will be lower quality. Buying your wedding dress from an affordable retailer (such as JJ’s House) can allow you to spend more money on other elements of your wedding rather than your dress. If anything, the less expensive dresses are even better because you know you’re getting good value for money. If you would rather rent a wedding dress, this can also save you a massive chunk of your wedding budget. With so many different wedding dress rent stores around the country, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

DIY Wedding Decorations

Buy your own ribbon and card then start getting creative! Tape up your decorations so your family and friends can admire them at the wedding and see how beautiful homemade decorations can be. Our personal favourite is tying ribbons around the back of your chairs, some wedding companies will require hundreds of dollars to do it when you can do it yourself. This saves you money, and you’re later proud of all the hard work you’ve put into too. If you have children, you can get them to help you decorate where you’re getting married to make it even more special.

Stick to an Artificial Bouquet

Fresh flowers cost a lot more money than artificial ones, and you can keep the artificial ones forever. Remember your special day and put the bouquet in a memory box, not only does it save money but it’s a lovely reminder of your wedding.

Skip the Cake

It’s slowly becoming a new trend to have other desert alternatives rather than a wedding cake. Some people suggest cookies and others say it’s better to try something entirely out of the ordinary like donuts. We think it’s a great idea and it saves a lot of money, plus everyone will be happy with a sweet treat. Often stores will do a deal of 100 or more cookies/deserts if you’re buying them for a special occasion so be sure to mention it’s your special day. They may give you a considerable discount!

Get Items Second Hand

Whether it’s your shoes or even your vale, second-hand wedding items always look new, and they’re just as beautiful. No one will ever know you’re wearing something that is second hand if you don’t want to tell them, but we’d suggest you embrace your inner budget queen and tell them. There are so many wedding aspects that can be second hand if you want them to be, it doesn’t just have to outfit related.

Saving money when you’re planning a wedding may seem difficult, but when you know what to do and look out for, you’re more than ready to get stuck in budget buying. Your special day will still be beautiful, but you may just have an extra few hundred dollars in your bank account.
