Government Focus On Social Media To Keep Track Of Current Affairs

BANGALORE: No wonder, social media played a vital role in the recently concluded elections. Through social media, Modi was successful in shaping the perception of Indian voters and constructed a discourse that paved the way for the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Likewise, he is all set to improvise all the governmental works and current affairs through social media platforms, reports TOI.

Terming the backbone of the Narendra Modi government's new ways of working as "Digital India", President Pranab Mukherjee said social media would be used as an important tool by the government. "The backbone of my government's new ways of working will be a Digital India. It will be used to drive re-engineering of government processes to improve service delivery and programme implementation," the President said.

Under Modi’s regime, current affairs updated through news clippings are no more the trend. As the government's focus on social media, daily trend reports on social media sites will soon be the norm. With Prime Minister desiring that ministers to take to social media to communicate, I & B Minister Prakash Javadekar has invited his ministerial colleagues to utilize a 'Social Media Communication Hub' set up by his ministry. The I & B Ministry has also offered facilitating the Twitter and Facebook accounts of other ministries.

In a letter addressed to different ministries, Javadekar said the Prime Minister has set new benchmarks in the social media domain.
