GANIT is the New Mathematics Day
BENGALURU: From now, National Mathematics Day will be known as GANIT, as reported by DNA. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) opines that it is time to remember the great Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan marking his anniversary on 22 December.
GANIT has an acronym too—Growing Aptitude Innovations and Training. The anniversary this year will be a weeklong affair. This is going to be the day that is dedicated to encouraging teachers and students towards mathematics education; the event will be more of an activity session. Mathematics has been a nightmare to everyone in their childhood and so the idea here is to make learning easy through various activities. These activities include the use of Information and Communication Technology so that the children are more interested in the subject.
Geogebra, the combination of Geometry and Algebra, is the new event which is a part of this event. Other than Geogebra, GANIT’s curriculum includes projects and assignments. Geogebra is a dynamic, multi platform mathematics software that provide the insights into what math can make possible. The fun part is that there are multiple new ways to celebrate mathematics as a subject. Several video and audio programs constitute the program.
Students too can contribute with various audios, videos, projects, posters and other documents on national repository of open educational resources. Many of the CBSE schools are actively celebrating the GANIT week. Teachers encourage students to inculcate new methods of solving problems. Math Labs in schools are extensively being used for the celebrations.
