Dubai Mishap Spurs the Government for Strict Action

BENGALURU: In light of the recent aircraft failure, which led to the Emirates EK-521 into crashing-landing at Dubai has forced the government to circulate videos of the incident to all airline companies on how not to carry out the evacuation process.

Generally, all aircraft have instructions cards per passenger, on what to do during a crash and how exactly to evacuate. Passengers rarely read these cards and they don't pay any particular attention to the safety video that is played for their purpose.

The footage shows people trying to slide down the inflated slides with their footwear on and carrying their hand luggage. This is a major setback for the aircrew, which should've been more strict with the rules as they clearly define that the passengers should leave their luggage behind and should take off their shoes, as any sharp edge on the luggage or the sole of the shoe would deflate the slide, thus compromising the emergency escape. Also, if the handbags are big, there is the problem of slower evacuation as the bags would be an obstacle at the entrance of the escape.

The footage also shows the evacuated passengers, instead of running towards safety, were stranded close by, taking pictures and videos of the situation with their mobiles and tablets. Now, this is a serious lack of common sense by the so called "well educated" crowd.

It is high time that the government, the airlines and the passengers themselves work together in avoiding such a calamity and follow the rules in such an instance in order to save as many lives as possible.
