Disability, Not An Issue For Ira Singhal: Topper Of UPSC 2015

BEGALURU: The final list selected candidate of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam is out;. Among all candidates, Ira Singhal, a physically disabled candidate has topped the prestigious Indian Civil Services examination and has set an example for those who have last hopes for various rezones.  Here goes the story of a girl who was called back by the same department which had once rejected her, reports Scoopwoop.

In 2010, Singhal cleared UPSC but was subsequently rejected by the Revenue department for Indian Revenue Service (IRS) post, because of her disordered spine and of her height. The official statement was "inability to push, pull and lift" and her height is no more than 4 feet 5 inches. But to her dismay Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) also refused to offer her a posting.

Ira quoted that, "It was tough initially as I had to undergo tests, submit medical certificates and prove that I am capable of doing jobs entrusted to me in the IRS. For two years, it was tough but then everyone realized that I am capable of working in spite of the disabilities."

Singhal consistently took up UPSC exams every year to improve her ranks wherein no rules can stop her from opting Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Consequently her persistent and determined efforts have paid off as she scored the top rank to choose IAS and has got an offer from DoPT, which once had denied her a job in 2010.
