Bangalore: Hunger is a persistent problem that has plagued many countries for years. While global hunger levels have been decreasing steadily over the past two decades, 870 million people still went hungry in 2012, according to Global hunger index, a study conducted by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). Here are the names of such countries-

1. Burundi:

Global Hunger Index score in 2013: 38.8 points

Burundi, a landlocked country in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa has the highest levels of hunger in the world, according to the 2013 Global Hunger Index (GHI) report. The report reveals that the challenge of hunger is the lack of sustainable food security under land, water, and energy stresses in this country. Several other factors including the failure of harvests due to drought, malnutrition and eight years long civil war have also added to the already existing hunger crisis.
