Can NDA Outperform UPA-2 With New Cabinet

Another major difference is that UPA believed in directing extra portfolios to the senior ministers. Whereas NDA directed them to the ministers with independent charge, most of whom are Modi’s loyalists from different states. Prior to the reshuffle, few ministers handled more than three portfolios, which certainly proved overboard. As a result, Modi has reduced the burden of some by distributing them to others after shuffling.

Modi has done away with the Group of Ministers (GoM) and Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM), who were meant to deal the inter-ministry issues. The new government is grouping around Modi for the same purpose.

The TOI took the initiative to compare the UPA2 with the present NDA in many parameters. According to TOI, the new cabinet is comparatively richer than UPA2, considering the UPA1 as well. Obvious fact is that NDA is dominant in 543 Lok Sabha, as opposed to Congress with just over 200 seats. Despite having a leaner government, NDA dominates in having slightly higher number of women in the entire ministerial team, higher representation of ministers in Rajya Sabha and BJP as a whole, leaving the allies. Thus, NDA dominates in all the key factors, owing to the well thought out structure of cabinet.
