Major Som Nath Sharma:

Major Som Nath Sharma, is the first recipient of the Param Vir Chakra Award. Major Sharma was born in Himachal Pradesh into a military family and was part of the 4th Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army. Major Sharma was awarded Param Vir Chakra for his brave brawl against the Pakistani forces in the Kashmir region in 1947.

In the operation, the troop headed by Major Sharma faced destructive shelling from the enemies, but he refused ceasefire and continued fighting, even though his troop was outnumbered. Eventually Major Sharma died on the same battle field.
