BENGALURU: Apple has remarkable market presence, needless to say, and particularly in India tons of developers make apps for iOS, the widely renowned operating system on which for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch operates. Apple loyalists in the country will be pleased to know that the company plans to expand its reach by setting up a development center. Apple has for the same initiative agreed to lease about 40,000 square feet of office space in Bengaluru.  The development center will be spread over two floors in a 3 lakh square feet office facility called Galleria, located in North Bengaluru. Though Apple denied commenting on the matter until press window on Sunday, but reports back in May confirms Apple’s move to set up a new iOS app design and development accelerator in Bengaluru. This move was envisaged with the intent to support engineering talent and accelerate growth in India’s iOS developer community. Apple had indicated that the accelerator can be expected to be started in early 2017.

Tim Cook, CEO, Apple expresses, "India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world. With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we're giving developers access to tools, which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world." With this move, Apple’s focus would remain on inspiring and instructing developers on best practices, assisting them in honing skills, and most importantly transforming the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform. Additionally, the facility will extend support for Swift, a robust powerful and intuitive programming language which helps developers to write safer and more reliable codes, thus saving time while creating richer app experiences. Apple uses Swift to build apps for iOS, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch.

Apple head earlier established another facility in Hyderabad, where it is spread over an area of 2.5 lakh square feet in a special economic zone at Gachibowli. The $25 million technology center at Bengaluru will be the company’s second such facility, and is set to focus on the development of maps products, with an intention of employing 4,000 people. Technology firms usually find Bengaluru and Hyderabad as their preferred destinations in India, and together they account for nearly 72 percent of the total office space demand in the country.
