4.  The Monkey-Gate controversy: Harbhajan vs. Symonds

It was India’s tour to Australia in 2008, which turned out to be the most remembered controversies of all times.  It was the 2nd Test match of the series at Sydney cricket ground that followed a series angry looks and unethical dialogues exchanged between Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds.

Symonds alleged that Harbhajan has made racist comments against him by calling him “Monkey.” Later, Harbhajan accepted that he had abused Symonds with a Hindi word that sounded like 'monkey'.  Ultimately Harbhajan was banned for 3 Test matches.

5. Riot at Eden Garden: 1996 Cricket World Cup

The Indian cricket fans are rightly called as “die-hard-fans”, especially when it comes to World Cup; their sentiments are on the top of the game. And when their sentiments are hurt, they don’t spare!  Such a heartbreaking incident occurred in the semifinals of 1996 World Cup. India was chasing the 252 runs for victory.

On the other hand, India flaccid to 120 for 8 wickets; India lost its 7 wickets within 22 runs. This was a pathetic performance by India. The wild crowd did not accept this failure and soon it turned into an insurgence, throwing bottles on the ground and burning fire in the stands.  Match referee Clive Lloyd tried to settle the condition but nothing stopped the violent crowd, as a result the match was finally rewarded to Sri Lanka.
