8 Global Cities with Extreme Climate Risk



Mumbai
Mumbai is the second Indian city ranked 8th on the list which has made it to the top ten cities with ‘extreme risk’ to climate change, it is a matter of distress to India.

Mumbai also shows a tropical weather, with tropical wet and dry climate around the year. The south western rains drench the city from June to September.


Delhi

Delhi, the third Indian city on the chart is ranked 20th with high risk due to the changing weather systems and temperature , as forecasted by the survey. 

Maplecroft’s Head of Maps and Indices, Helen Hodge said, “As global corporations expand into the emerging growth markets, their operations and supply chains will become exposed to a complex set of climate risks that have the potential to disrupt business continuity.” She added “It is essential for them to identify where suppliers, assets and personnel are most at risk and plan for the long term.”

The other cities on the ‘extreme risk’ in the world are Lagos in Nigeria , which is placed tenth, Johannesburg in South Africa ranked 13th, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil ranked 21st, Shanghai in China ranked 24th. Among the low risk cities are Madrid, St Petersburg, Chicago, Paris and London.
