Bangalore: We are now 64 years old as a Republic and with patriotic feelings evoking in the hearts of all Indians this Republic Day, it is time to celebrate the fact that we are the citizens of democratic India. It is time to reminisce India's glorious history, culture and heritage and to watch out and remember the unique things that happen in only our nation.

Maha Kumbh Mela:
The Kumbh Mela began on 14 January this year at Allahabad (Prayag). It is one of the world's largest religious gatherings which lasts 55 days. This religious festival sees up to 100 million people flock to take a bath in the river Ganges. Kumbh Mela occurs every 12 years and millions of people from around the world gather together at the confluence, to bathe in the icy waters of the holy rivers in a ritual they believe will wash away their sins.

Indian Republic Day Parade:
Indian Republic Day parade is something that definitely is worth watching. It is a colorful and vivid parade that includes soldiers marching down Rajpath, bravery awards being given to the young brave hearts of the nation and other cultural shows. The parade takes place in the national capital, New Delhi in the presence of top dignitaries such as the Prime Minister, President of India, etc.

1: Here are the things that make India incredible in my books.
1. Total disregard for 50% of the population. Case in point are the blatant rapes and molestations that our Mothers, Sisters, Wives, and Daughters endure each day.

2. The fact that nothing in the public domain ever gets done without greasing the skids. I myself paid 25,000 Rs last month to get something through at the BBMP (Bangalore). If you are not well to do to pay bribes, you are screwed.

3. Our pathetic reservation system. How does one tell a child as to why he/she does not have to study well and make good grades, as he/she is born with a silver spoon and that a seat in college and a job is already waiting

4. How inspite of being a leading economy in the world we have people (mostly males) urinating and defecating in public

5. Our pathetic roads

Dont get me wrong. I am a total patriot and love my country. However, its amazing how we dont give ourselves much to be proud of as a country, as all we care is to make sure that individual interests trump all else.

Chak De India!
