6 Indian Metro Cities with Highest Literacy Rate

Hyderabad
Hyderabad with a population of 6.8 million has a literacy rate of 82.96 and based on that it is the last or the sixth city in India with an agreeably high rate of literacy.  Among the few Government schemes the Mamidipudi Venkatarangaiya Foundation founded by Shantha Singh to end the curse of child labour in Andhra Pradesh in order to send all children to school has made a great difference in the city. At present this foundation has extended its program and school services to over 4,300 villages.
Another NGO in Hyderabad, known as ‘Sphoorti’, a non-profit group, works to improve the conditions of the unfortunate children who are abandoned, orphaned, impoverished and from other sensitive groups. They provide long term attention to these children, which include the basic requirements, education, healthcare and the aid needed to change the lives of these children and molding them into responsible adults.

These initiatives have been revolutionary in providing not just education for children but also giving them the environment to develop and earn a better living. As quoted by the LA times “No skill is more crucial to the future of a child, or to a democratic and prosperous society, than literacy.” Even though literacy is expected as a skill developed from childhood, but still there is no age limit to learn to read and write and there is always a pleasure to acquire this skill, which is profound.
