5 reasons why the use of private number plates is increasing in the UK

Why is the number of personalized license plates in the UK increasing in recent years instead of decreasing as in other countries where personalized license plates are available?

3) Make a vehicle even more exclusive

It is often possible to find luxury brand vehicles, such as Ferrari or Bentley for example, with ordinary license plates. Getting a personalized license plate can give you even more exclusivity. Some examples could be; "R011SRY" on a Rolls Royce, or "BU 64T1" on a Bugatti, making direct references to the make of the vehicle. In other cases, combinations are used that refer to money or wealth. It is also possible, although very rarely, to see personalized license plates of this type on cheaper vehicles.

4) Display a status symbol

Often related to the previous point, but not necessary for use in exclusive or luxury vehicles. They are frequently used in high-end vehicles, and usually show some aspect related to the owner, such as his job title or an important date for a country in the event that the owner is a foreigner. An example would be "D0CT08" (Doctor) or number 212 for someone from the United Arab Emirates. At this point, it is worth mentioning as an example the license plates of the ambassadors' vehicles, which usually use three letters and a number to identify the country they represent.

5) To advertise a company, organization, group or type of vehicle in very particular cases

Simply put, some companies or organizations use this type of license plate to advertise. Normally, the vehicle is usually already labeled with the logo and the text of the company, so the license plate can even serve as the numbering of the company's vehicles.
