Prohibition of captive dolphin shows: In 2013 India’s Ministry of Environment and Forests imposed ban on capturing of dolphins for entertainment purpose or on any other interest by stating “by any person / persons, organizations, government agencies, private or public enterprises that involves import, capture of cetacean species to establish for commercial entertainment, private or public exhibition and interaction purposes whatsoever.” when protests out broke against the use of dolphins for commercial purposes.

Ban on animal tested cosmetics: Another major step by the government which shook the nation, animal tested cosmetics can fetch a huge amount of revenue every year, but still government imposed ban on it in November 2014. The updated news states “Prohibition of import of cosmetics tested on animals. No cosmetic that has been tested on animals after the commencement of Drugs and Cosmetics (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2014 shall be imported into the country.” In south Asia, India is the first country to do so.

Indian leading airlines for marine life: Shark fins are in great demand in East Asia, the famous soup is made out of. But on the other hand to meet the demands, fins are being removed immediately after the capturing and finless sharks are thrown back to the waters. This cruel practice makes the sharks non swimmable and they eventually die by suffering from intense pain.
Indian based airlines ‘Jet airways’ took an initiative to support fight against this brutal practice and rejected ship to shark fins. This decision was hailed by many animal rights activists.

Paramilitary to monitor gadhimai festival: Gadhimai festival is one of the most organized cruel events, where, once in five years people gather in Nepal to slaughter half a million of animals in the name of festival. More than 70 percent of animals are brought from India; this dragged the eyes of Indian government. The ‘Shashathra Bheem Bhal’ a Paramilitary Force was sent to indo-Nepal border immediately to monitor it, which stopped the unlicensed exporting of animals to Nepal. Many measures have been taken to educate people on this particular festival.

Notice against the confinement of eggs laying hens in battery cages: the Punjab and Haryana court issued a notice on the one year maltreatment of egg laying hens in 2014. The battery cages used to shelter hens are very small in size, in which, a hen can’t even make its basic movements. In India more than 200 million egg laying hens in battery cages.

“The use of battery cages to confine egg laying hens is absolutely barbaric. The cages strip away the dignity of the hens completely. It’s unfathomable that living beings can be treated with such cruelty,” said Senior Advocate Mr. Anand Grover who represented the petitioner.
